The September First Friday Celtic Women Lecture will be on Fri. Sept. 12 at
5:30-7:30 PM.
The Great Book of Gaelic"
by Nancy Walczyk
This "modern illuminated manuscript" covers over a millenium of Irish and
Scottish poetry in Gaelic. Selected poems were illustrated by contemporary
artists and calligraphers. This book will be coming to UW-Milwaukee in 0ctober
2008 AND WILL BE THE ONLY PLACE IN THE USA TO HAVE THE EXHIBIT. Come and learn
about it.
The Lectures are at UWM, Greene Hall, on the west side of Downer Ave. beween
Norfork & Hartford streets. It's a very historic building, probably originally
the College Chapel. (Look for a single story building with a row of arched
windows right next to the sidewalk - it also has a ramp to the entrance). Spend
some time looking at the medieval ceiling and wall decorations, as well as the
building to the left of it, whose roof has both gargoyles AND grotesques.
Allow time to find parking, either within a few blocks on the street (parking
meters must be fed until 6 PM) or in a parking ramp.
Admission is $7.00 for all. Men and women, members and non-members, welcome. Tea
and bicuits are served.
