This is the third announcement for the Arts & Sciences events to be held at
the Fall Coronation hosted by Sir Cecil's Siege Sept. 14-17, 2006. There
has been a change in what will be accepted into the comments-only display.

There will be a competitor-judged competition. Entrants will be divided up
into small groups, entrants will judge all entries in their group, and the
winner from each group will advance to the final judging. The final judging
will be done by a panel; the judges for the final will be announced at a
later date. Everyone judging will use the A&S judging form. All entries
must be completed and documented, using the A&S documentation standards.
The judging form and documentation standards may be accessed at
http://www.northshield.org/officers/moas/. There will be prizes.

There will be a comments-only display. This event is designed for
entrants
who are new to A&S, desire to find out what it would be like to enter into a
competition, or for any other reason are hesitant to enter in the judged
competition. It is also the place to display items that are made for use in
the SCA but would never fit into the competitions for various reasons.
Comment cards will be provided, and viewers encouraged to give the display
feedback. Each entrant will fill out a form for each item, stating the
following basic information:
Name of item. (ie, "arming tunic")
Name of culture that made or used the item. (ie, "Saxon")
       Date of culture. (ie, 450-1060)
Geographic range of culture. (ie, "eastern England")
Purpose of or use for item. (ie, "to provide padding under armor")
Materials from which item is made. (ie, "linen lined with a
modern-era
furniture pad")
What was done differently and/or the same as compared to the original
item,
and (if done differently) why. (ie, I used a modern sewing machine and
sewing tools; I used a modern furniture pad for the lining because it was
affordable and provides excellent protection.)
Items that are left without this basic information will NOT be placed
in
the display. The purpose of this display is not to determine a 'winner', but
to give anyone who wants it experience in documenting, entering a display,
and help getting over those first-time-entering heebie jeebies; it is also a
place for everyone to show how they've adapted modern materials to fill a
need and still look 'period'.

This year we will not be accepting any entries from the performing
arts
venues. We hope to add performing arts entries next year when the schedule
is not quite so packed with extras; please forgive us this year!! We can't
be everything to everyone, and the coronation and royal courts take
precedence.

There will be an Artisans' Row. Artisans' Row is an area designated
for
people to gather at while they work on their projects. The purpose is to
encourage the various arts and sciences by having a place for people to
gather, watch projects in the making, talk with the person working on the
project and, perhaps, be encouraged to try the project too. Artisans' Row
also provides a place for people who are interested in the same type of
projects to gather, compare work, help each other with problems, and show
their work to other people.

Pre-registering is not required, but it IS encouraged for two reasons:
the first is to ensure that I have arranged enough tables and room for
everyone, as well as forms and other paperwork. The second is because I'd
like to try something new: I'd like to put on the Web site a 'preview' of
what will be there for people to see. An example would be "The display will
include the following entries: a Saxon tunic, a Crusader helm, a wooden
salt box, carded wool dyed with woad, a card-woven belt..."

But be assured, if it shows up, we'll display it, pre-registered or not!!

Any comments, suggestions, pre-registrations and complaints may be directed
to Domina Berenice Calvina at pottratzwaack at hotmail.com.

Thankee very kindly.
