Hi all, there have been some questions as to if the archery practices would
continue through the holidays.
Wed 12/20 - normal practice
Sun 12/24 - yes, we're having practice now - see the info on Jack's
challenge below.
Wed 12/27 - normal practice
Sun 12/31 - NO ARCHERY PRACTICE
I am not cancelling any of the fletchers meetings, though I'll understand if
they're sparsely attended...
I know I mentioned cancelling the next two Sundays, after polling the
archers, at the Sunday 12/17 practice... Jack has since mentioned his
interest, for the honor & glory of Northshield, of getting our kingdom on
the scoreboard in the Period Division IKAC. More information follows.
So, if you're able, pick up your bows and heed his challenge! I'll be there
with the loaner gear if anyone wishes to use it.
And while I'm here, happy holidays to all of you catfish, wherever,
whenever, and however you celebrate.

Greetings to the gentles of Jararvellir from John Bartholomew of
Flanders, writing in the cold and dark which shows the Solstice
approaching...
I have a challenge for the group. It is an archery challenge, and
one with a very short timeline... but as we in Jararvellir are
renowned for our archers, I am hoping that at least some of you may
rise to this call...
While perusing the scores for the IKAC, I noticed that Northshield
does not have a ranking score in the Period Division. To get a
Kingdom average, the Keeper of the IKAC needs three scores for a
division. Our own Moira nicConnell the Strongbow is listed in the
Open Divison, contributing to Northshield's Kingdom score for the
Open Division = but for the Period Division, it turns out we only
have two scores. I think that Northshield should have a Kingdom
average in the Period Division, and all we need is one more archer's
score.
There are two catches: first, we need to get the score(s) by Dec 31.
Second, there are some limitations for shooting the Period division -
but I don't think these are insurmountable (moe on this below).
It turns out that we happen to have archery practice scheduled this
coming Sunday - the day before Christmas - from 12 noon to 4:00.
(With a small group, we should be able to shoot an IKAC within 2-2.5
hours.)
So, my challenge is to the archers of Jara: Come shoot the Period
IKAC at this sunday's practice, so we can submit more scores and get
Northshield onto the IKAC Kingdom Rankings.
For reference, to shoot the Period Division IKAC, you need:
* A bow made in a period style. This means it can't have a cut out
riser (a shelf cut into the bow to rest an arrow on). While many of
our loaner bows are of fiberglass, they do NOT have cut out risers,
and so can be shot in the Period Divison IKAC.
* Self-nocked arrows (or horn nocks, but not plastic) - we have a lot
of these in the Jara loaner gear, enough for at least a few sets to
be shot. In addition, a number of folks have enough self-nock arrows
that they might be able to share...
* a special target face. I will provide these. (in fact, we can
score the Period Division using the standard IKAC target, But I will
make some up to go with the spirit of the challenge. For reference,
in the eriod division, the white, black, and blue count for 2 points,
the red and half the gold count as 4 points, and the inner half of
the gold counts as 8 points.)
I know that this is a busy time for many of us, but I am also hoping
that we can find a few good souls to rise to this challenge, and help
Northshield show her place among the archers of the Known World.
Looking forward to some fun and competition on the range,
I remain,
yours in service,
Jack
