Denis:
Good thick wool can be aquired cheaply by purchasing "army" blankets. They
usually are in olive green, but white, cream and medium blue can also be
found. Some are blends that are machine washable. You'd need at least two
to make a capote. Three would be better. I strongly suggest you line it
with something to make it go over your sweater easier, like cotton satin.
Sometimes, you can buy surplus navy pea coats or Swiss or Swedish army coats
for far less than what it would cost to buy the wool. $30 to $50 was the
price range for the ones I bought. The Swiss ones are kind of a spiffy
grey-spruce color.
I hope this helps.

Good day,
I want to make a winter coat for myself. Could anybody please give me
suggestions as to what I should use to make it warm? I know using thick wool
or a fur lining are options. Are there any other options which are cheaper
but just as effective, and where could these materials be acquired?
Thank you,
Denis
