Hi all,

This is to let Jara folks know that there is a Sephardic music concert by the Gerard Edery Ensemble at the Wisconsin Union Theater this Saturday night (9/15) at 9:30 pm. This is part of the Madison World Music Festival (more info at: http://www.union.wisc.edu/worldmusic/index.html ). All performances are free!

Sephardic music itself is not documentable to SCA period (that is, we don't have music/lyrics written down during SCA period), but it has been collected from communities all over the world with roots in the Jewish expulsion from the Iberian peninsula around 1492. So, many people surmise that at least some Sephardic music dates from pre-1600. It's amazing music, with a mix of Spanish, Middle Eastern, and other influences. Gerard Edery is one of the pre-eminent people currently performing Sephardic music--it is definitely worth the trip downtown to see this concert! More information about Gerard can be found at http://www.union.wisc.edu/worldmusic/edery.html or his website at http://www.gerardedery.com/ .

Maybe I'll see you there!
