Giovanna sent me this, and I'm passing it on for discussion. I think if we
take a serious look into it now, we might be able to come up with some
reasonable options in time to change meetings for spring semester. (Yes,
this means I'm actually hoping people will talk on the list instead of
reading something and forgetting about it).
If people are wondering about the history of Tor Aerie meeting places and
how it relates to this question, I can post about that later-let me know.

Hey Laurence,
I have a question for you and the gang at Tor Aerie.
Nordskogen is planing on meeting at the Middle school again this year,
mostly because another option was not looked into. I have suggested for the
past 2 years that another option should be looked into and so I am writing
you.
It feel that the Barony has long outgrown the school and we should find
another place to meet. When I first started going to Baronial meetings, we
met at the U at the Armory. I believe that the Barony and the Canton met
together, but don't quote me. The armory wasn't an ideal place either, but
we managed to hold armored combat, business meetings, dance and general
social practice. I think we lost the Armory about 6-8 years ago (something
about the gym floor not being sturdy enough for our group). Anyhow, I
thought the arrangement of the 2 groups meeting together and using the same
space made sense and I would like to speak to the members of Tor Aerie about
forming this relationship again.
here are the benefits that could come of this:
1) we could use a site that is free or low cost somewhere on campus (St.
Paul campus might be a possiblity)
2) the heavy combat and rapier could have a reliable practice site that
is indoors, which could help foster new fighters in Tor Aerie and
Nordskogen.
3) having a combined meeting could help new members in Tor Aerie meet
more established members in the Barony. Baronial members could be available
to teach classes or hold workshops.
4) having a weekly meeting where a lot of activities take place could
free up other nights of the week so people don't have as much time spent on
SCA stuff.
I have presented my idea to Ellen and she thinks it sounds like a good
idea but also agrees that we are pretty late in the game to go forward with
the plan at this time. I also did not want to move forward with anything
until I spoke to the members of Tor Aerie and see what they thought of the
idea.
Please let me know what you think.
