Costume-Con 25 is pleased to announce a special lecture track on Western
European clothing of the Middle Ages, to be held on Saturday only, March 31, 2007. Robin Netherton is co-editor of the academic journal Medieval
Clothing and Textiles. Founders of the study group DISTAFF, she and
co-editor Dr. Gale Owen-Crocker organize tracks of sessions on medieval
dress and textiles each year at the International Congresses on Medieval Studies. Ms. Netherton has lectured to sold-out houses in such cities as Boston, Seattle, Philadelphia, Denver, Orlando, Portland, and San Jose. She also spoke at CC21 in Chicago, in 2003.
This special all-day program track will begin the morning with her well-known pair of talks on "The Gothic Fitted Dress" (a medieval fashion known to many modern costumers as the "cotehardie") and "The Greenland Gored Gown" (the style often called the "10-gore dress"). Two to 3 more lectures will follow a lunch break (subjects to be announced in the near future).
The lecture series is open to all members of Costume-Con 25, however, you
are strongly advised to reserve your seat in advance, as seating will be
limited. You should indicate your wish to have your name on the list at the
time you register. If you are already registered, just drop us a line at
slcg at email.com.
If you are only interested in attending Ms. Netherton's lectures, you may
purchase a one-day membership ($50, available on-line), which also gives you access to all the activities of the convention that day. You should be
aware that if you choose to wait to purchase a one-day membership at the door, we cannot guarantee that seats will still be available for the lectures.
