Hello,

Just in case people want a general overveiw before I picked out some of my
favorite websites for an over veiw of Japanese historical dress. I am a
very visual person, so most of what is here are pictures.

This one is very good about capturing the general fashion of the era at its
height. It doesn't explain the pieces but is a good place to get a feel for
the eras. I wouldn't recommend looking at the modern stuff, though, the
some of the rules presented there apply, and lots of them don't.

This one is really cool, but can be really hard to navigate the links
without a better grasp on Japanese than I have.

This one is really much more modern than I'd like, but it does give
pictures of the types of kimono that were present. Ignore most of the
accessories, but drool over some of the fabrics. Plus a really weird mix of
translated and not vocabulary.

Vocabulary! Very useful stuff (though you can ignore the obijime that
didn't really exist in that form yet) especially if you want to google a
certain kind of clothing.

This is a good site, and built with historical reinactors in mind.

Happy hunting,
